Book Odyssey ("the app") is a personal library and reading-tracking app. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it's used, and what happens to it. We built Book Odyssey to keep as much of your data on your own device as possible.
1. Information stored on your device
The app stores the following locally on your device, using standard secure device storage. This data is not sent anywhere unless you turn on optional cloud sync (see Section 2):
- Your book library entries (titles, authors, ISBNs, covers, format, reading status)
- Reading lists you create
- App preferences, such as your selected theme
- An optional Google Books API key, if you choose to add your own
2. Camera and photo access
The app requests camera access to scan book barcodes (ISBNs) and to optionally photograph a book cover. It requests photo library access so you can choose an existing photo as a book cover. Images are processed on your device to identify or store book information and are not uploaded to our servers except as part of optional cloud sync you explicitly enable.
3. Optional cloud sync (pCloud)
Book Odyssey offers optional sync with a third-party cloud storage provider you connect yourself (currently pCloud). If you enable this:
- You authenticate directly with that provider (we never see your provider password)
- Your library and reading list data is stored in your own account on that provider's storage, so a copy can be restored on another device
- Access tokens are stored securely on your device
- Your data is subject to that provider's own privacy policy while it resides there (pCloud Privacy Policy)
If you don't already have a pCloud account, the sign-up link inside the app is an affiliate link: we may earn a commission if you sign up through it, at no extra cost to you. Signing in with an existing pCloud account works the same way and doesn't require using that link.
4. Shareable reading lists
If you choose to create a shareable reading list, the app sends a slimmed-down copy of the selected books (title, author, ISBN, and cover image) to our backend service so we can generate a shareable web link. This does not include an account or personal profile: there is no user account system in Book Odyssey. You receive a one-time delete link when you create a shared list, allowing you to remove it later.
5. Amazon affiliate links
Some book detail screens may include links to Amazon for purchasing. As an Amazon Associate, Book Odyssey may earn a commission from qualifying purchases made via Amazon links at no extra cost to you. Amazon's own privacy practices apply once you leave the app (Amazon Privacy Notice).
6. What we don't do
- We don't require account creation or collect your name, email, or contact details
- We don't run advertising or third-party analytics/tracking SDKs in the app
- We don't sell your data
7. Children's privacy
Book Odyssey is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
8. Your choices
- You can delete your library data at any time from within the app
- You can disconnect cloud sync at any time
- You can delete a shared reading list using the delete link provided when it was created
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
